In addition to performing as a concerto and recital soloist, guitarist J. Scott Matejicka was a founding member of the 1 East Guitar Quartet (originally the New York Guitar Quartet). During their ten years together (2000-2010), the quartet performed extensively at guitar festivals and in concert series. In November 2009, the quartet released their eponymous CD consisting of pre- and post-common practice compositions. Scott is a graduate of the Master of Music program at Yale University where he was faculty assistant to concert artist Benjamin Verdery. His talents have been recognized with numerous awards including the first Yale University Elliot Fisk Award. Scott is currently the chair of the Guitar Department at the Peabody
Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University.
Scott resides in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife, two children, and a Chug (Pug-Chihuahua) named Frankenstein. In addition to classical guitar, he enjoys motorcycles, a robust Malbec, and Rockabilly.
